Yesterday we found out we are having a baby boy this summer... in addition to Giuseppe and Vincenzo. We couldn't be happier. Due date is expected for July 27.

Bove family update, March 2009

Life has gone on for us, even without Dad.
We all agree he has been a spiritual part of all decision we have made since his passing 14 months ago.

Below is a snippet of our lives:


Mom: is mourning the recent passing of her mother just a few weeks ago. She is currently spending several months in Italy with her brothers, sisters and family. Even at such a sad time she has made great efforts to enjoy her time in Italy. Our cousin, Carmelina, will be returning with her in April. We are looking forward to seeing the both of them.

Riva: finally sold her home! Hurray. In such a tough market she sold it fairly quickly. Riva, a working, single mom, has her work cut out for her: running the kids to and from practices/games and devoting time to take Mom to doctor appointments can all take a toll. Yet, she juggles it all on a daily basis.

Carmino: has taken a fairly new position as Financial Representative with Principal Financial Group located out of Indianapolis. Carmino and his dog, Capone, keep busy after work hours. However, with the season change Carmino is bound to get back on the course where he is passionate about golf. (Sorry, no photo is available... we think Carmino had something to do with it.)

Sonia: is saying goodbye to newspapers, but refuses to say goodbye to journalism. She is taking a buyout at The Ann Arbor News scheduled for this summer; just in time for her third baby expected in July. She is also going to take a chance in this horrible economical time and start her own business in marketing and digital media. Launch date: September 2009.

Nadia: thinks her family is weird and tries to avoid them as much as possible. She thought moving to Texas would help in her efforts, but to no avail. They still call, send emails and even try to sell her Amway on a daily basis. Nadia's working for a luxury retirement community where she updates their newsletter, website and various print media. In her spare time she enjoys teaching others about government conspiracies (NASA, gravity and other obvious lies they want you to believe.) She has a black lab named Mama Mia of whom she suspects is secretly a monkey. (If you have any evidence of this please call her so she can add it to her file.) Just yesterday Nadia purchased a green shirt, more of a sage really. It is very nice.

Anelese: has started practicing The Marion Lightning Travel Soccer Team as goalie once again. She is excited. She is looking forward to the summer when she can start playing golf again. Oddly enough, us Bove's aren't known for our outstanding athletic ability, yet Anelese has been a super-star athlete.

Dante: he has joined The Marion LIghtning Travel Soccer Team. He and his sister will be going away to Camp Crosley for the first time away from home this summer.

Giuseppe: is doing great at St. Thomas Catholic School. Math seems to be his favorite subject. As far as sports go, he has been remarkable at all he has put effort into such as hockey, football and baseball.

Vincenzo: loves playing, especially with his big brother. At his age we are proud to see him jump and gallup.

---

Andy: has been super busy lately. Doing all the handy work around the house in preparation to his growing family. We are also excited to announce that Andy has taken to making wine as a hobby that we can all enjoy. First batch should be ready just in time for the celebration of the new baby.

---

Ken: has started dance lesson at the local community center. He has become such a star at his slick moves that there is a good chance that Mia, his dog, will be joining him next season debuting the FoxTrot.

Fun in the sun

Sonia, Andy, Giuseppe, Vincenzo and Mom all went on a vacation to Cabo san Luca. We had a fabulous time.

Mom (Lisa) did tequila shots and got a henna tattoo that said J.B.

Mom bargained with the locals and got great deals. Very impressive!

Sonia enjoyed the poolside and the drinks.

Vincenzo mastered walking and loved the water.

Giuseppe won the dance contest two nights in a row, plus he make huge strides at his swimming skills.

Andy got to sample a variety of beverages with his stylish cowboy hat.

Next vacation... tbd!

Eulogy

Read by Sonia Gottfried:

All of us are lucky to have known such a good, honest man. There are a lot of people in this room whom's life has been touch by my father, Juistino Bove.

However, there is no one as blessed as the four children that have the great pleasure to call him Dad. Dad leaves behind 4 children and 4 grandchildren.

As a father his parenting style was to teach by example, and in turn he taught us life lessons of truth, respect and trust.

Those that know him well know that to be a true statement.

He always told the truth except at the expense of hurting feelings or taking sides. And in those cases he said nothing. That is why most people refer to him as a quiet man. But truthfully, he was being a gentleman who bit his tounge a lot.

Dad also taught us that trust was a 2-way street. Give 100% trust 100% of the time and you will find good in even the worst situation. And in bad situations he patterened his life after this statement: "You are as happy as you want to be."

Even in his last years, months, days and hours I know he continued to stay happy. And I truly contribute that to his #1 girl, Lisa Bove, my mother. The care and dedication she gave you was remarkable. Never once did she complain and never once did she ask for recognition. Mom, you are a true rock. On behalf of Dad and the rest of the family, I thank you, Mom.

Dad, I couldn't be happier to have such fabulous parents as you and mom.

But the truth is, Dad became my friend just before I obtained my undergraduate degree. I can't tell you how fortunate I am to be able to call both my parents my friends. Even after childhood years of hearing, "You kids break everything you get your hands on," or "Carmino, I will pull this car over and you can walk home," or "Go upstairs and play," we still managed to become good buds.

Once I became his friend it was more along the lines of, "While you're resting, get me a beer."

So, to Dad, I am sad you are not here with me anymore. I will continue to turn to you for advice and guidance. Obviously, I will never forget you, but I promise to keep your memories alive through stories I pass on to my children and grandchildren. Thanks for the lessons you have taught me and I pray you continue your teaching while you are watching over me and give me the strength to be as good of a parent to my boys as you were to me.

For now good-bye, Dad. And until we meet again, I will miss you every day.

Graduation

Going to college was mandatory according to Dad. He couldn't be prouder of his children. Riva Bove-Whitton, St. Mary of the Woods ('92); Carmino Bove, Indiana State University ('94); Sonia Gottfried, Ball State University ('98) & Eastern Michigan University ('02); and Nadia Sharp, Purdue University ('02).

Nearly 39 years of marriage, Juistino and Lisa still managed to have a spark for each other.

Obituary

Bove, Juistino (J.B.) Marion, IN Juistino Bove died Saturday, Jan. 19 at Marion General Hospital after the culmination of more than a decade fight of emphsyema. 

J.B was born Jan. 1, 1940 in Roccaseca, Italy to Luisa and Vincent Bove.He came to the U.S. in 1947 where he attended Bennett Catholic School and graduated in 1959.

J.B. enjoyed U.S. History which he majored in at Indiana University.He also had a strong interest in coin collecting.

In 1969 J.B. met his wife, Elisabetta, in Italy. Soon after their marriage they returned to Marion to raise a family of four children: Riva, Carmino, Sonia and Nadia.

J.B. worked 35 years at Thompson Consumer Electronics. He was dedicated to other business ventures including Mason Village and Westwood Square.

J.B. was a member of Meshingomesia Country Club for 25 years.

J.B. enjoyed playing golf and drinking wine with family and friends. He loved being surrounded by people. He cherished being both a husband and father, but ultimately his greatest joy in life was being a grandfather.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army where he specialized in morse code. 

J.B. was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Luisa Bove as well as his brother Carmino Bove and sister Antoinette Grimaldi.

He is survived by wife, Elisabetta Bove of Marion, IN; son, Carmino Bove of Marion, IN; daughters Riva Bove-Whitton of Marion, IN; Sonia Gottfried of Ann Arbor, MI and Nadia Sharp of Austin, TX; grandchildren Anelese Bove-Whitton (8 years old), Dante Bove-Whitton (8 years old), Giuseppe Gottfried (4 years old) and Vincenzo Gottfried (8 months old); sons-in-law Andy Gottfried and Ken Sharp. 

"You are as happy as you want to be" was a statement on how J.B. lived his life and encouraged his family to also follow. 

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. Marion, IN (765) 664-5030 with a vigil service at 6:00 PM.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Weisenberger officiating.

J.B. will be laid to rest in the Grant Memorial Park mauseleum. A reception to follow.
